From Twitter 01-10-2011

@sebmatthews use wired ethernet.
Surprisingly still using #seesmic desktop 2 #sd2. more reliable than tweetdeck, nice aggregation like chromedeck. only a few gaps
@dougedey I've only ever seen her in #dollhouse
@desiibond some clients use the streaming API which doesn't count towards these limits (tweetdeck, seesmic desktop)
@MorganF1 had great fun a few weeks ago in ice, took dogs to the skate park and they skidded around/slipped like crazy - great fun!
RT @OzoneVibe: #F1 - At 7am UK time on 10th January . . . it is EXACTLY . . . 60 days 0 hours 0 minutes 0 seconds until FP1 of the 2011 ...
@desiibond ah yes I got that in the footer. Seesmic seems ok. Do you have streaming enabled? Did you notice any bad effect?
mm. #seesmic desktop 2 #sd2 really needs selective twitter notifications (I'd like replies/private only)
yep in my timeline, seesmic's desktop notifications are worthless due to volume #sd2
@seesmic Is there a plan to add selective notifications (say DM/mentions only) to twitter plugin on SD2?
@seesmic Also any plan to show references tweet (in-reply-to) within #SD2 rather than just opening URL?
@seesmic finally, if I view a twitter profile then go to updates, can those entres be full function ie allow reply/retweet/reference etc?
Annoyingly notice that #redhat network web UI does not support 24hr clock in scheduled times. Odd omission
not too happy that my cold (fairly minor, mostly nose) has been hanging around for 2 weeks apart from a nye/nyd break (helpfully)
@sarahgreasley Yikes. It's bad enough going off once (in Hursley). difficult to think/phone etc. Time for a walk perhaps...
@SirajSoft good news, though IMO the #engadget site is a usability #fail -- far too heavy/complex/cluttered IMO. even on desktop it's poor
@VirginRacing most mentions of "virginracing" in last 90 days (not including say last week) ? (and I haven't even entered!)
@vixisabel I can imagine theres a huge opportunity over there now...
@ThreeUK np it's an extremely attractive offer that I'm sure I'd be looking at if I wasn't in a blackspot. Right tool for the job etc...
@paulbackhouse nice :-) I take it you're tempted!
@jtonline I used to get that on my T60p. think it overheated then just wouldn't boot off disk for 10-15 mins ...
@JayMontano I think every phone I've had since around 2003 -- except 1 has had f/f camera (all 3G). not exactly new tho some think so
@etherealtype yeah that isn't the first time it's happened is it...!
@JayMontano Or how about a) working alarm clock, inc. from off b) reliable SMS messaging?
@rockmelt Hi 2 q a) Is it poss to *keep* bookmarks, extensions etc synced with regular chrome b) is there a rockmelt discussion forum?
@paulbackhouse sounds like you're closer to the cab than me. I'm around 470m - typical. still even 30 is decent. you may get up to 60 future
@paulbackhouse terrible no sooner than we think we can get 30 I'm talking about 60,100 or higher. Wish we had fibre to home though.
@paulbackhouse Apparently BT are using VDSL2 profile 8c - see http://bit.ly/h5y1MB 2nd graph few pages down #fttc
@paulbackhouse is in feet but suggestion is if line is ok (I know mine is 0.5mm Cu) 40 Mbps is esily achievable (graphs in feet)
8 days before #BTInfinity gets installed :-) #fttc
One of my favourite tracks from 2010 - Lissie 'When I'm Alone' #nowlistening
@paulbackhouse sometimes older is better - heavy duty, as metal prices increases. Of course in 70s shortage meant Al got used. Bad.
@paulbackhouse also BT eng told me when I had an E-side replacement before that some D-sides hop from jn to jn - not good.
@paulbackhouse anyone suffice to say - a *lot* faster than now.
@paulbackhouse I always find it funny (ok isn't really) of thieves stealing fibre optic thinking it's Cu.. then realising worth lot less
@paulbackhouse our internal wiring was poor, problems until filtered at master. Actually currently ext disconnected as last BT visit they
@paulbackhouse chopped them and I never reconnected (or know if cables long enough). DECT base station & Voip ATA in master anyway
@paulbackhouse really? You mean if not a single span?
@paulbackhouse I think mine was from solwise - master socket filter
This could be a concise conference call - just had a notice "Wed Jan 12th 10:00 AM - 10:00 AM ET" -- err ok.
@Anniemole I suspect that any strike on wedding day would not exactly gain public sympathy for their cause. snds like blown up rumour tho.
@hardillb where are you? US? On last vacation I tried to get a PAYG data sim... errr.. except that aint easy in US :-(
@hardillb Wonder if ny high-end/mainstream dual sim phones will come out. But not in interests of telcos. Could mean home sim + local sim
@hardillb os business+corporate. And new chipsets would allow both to be used concurrently.
@hardillb one of the reasons I ended up flipping back to windows on laptop. Even though rarely use flash when I did=painful @sxa555
@sxa555 some things about windows wind me up intensely. Much prefer linux principles. But too much time wasting grief :-(
@sxa555 @hardillb I reckon I get more "real work" in current configuration even though I get close to switching back nearly ev. week
T-Mobile UK *reduce* data allowed on mobile via FUP http://bit.ly/fxO6Qd . Voda recently reduced BB PAYG, whilst three launched unlimited..
@oldmanuk They have a new compression technology - your movie converts into an animated gif ...
@oldmanuk If coverage wasn't an issue this just shows to me three is the network to use for "proper" data.
@oldmanuk just a pain I have no decent at coverage... or home ... and son doesn't at college. Grrr.
@IamNii_Teiko These vague FUPs are somewhat problematic. difficult to know where you stand. I can understand a change for new contracts
@IamNii_Teiko which is what O2 did for home broadband, but these fup reductions (voda, tmobile) are effectively a change in T&Cs
@IamNii_Teiko If they're honourable the min they'd do is allow someone to leave contract-free whose usage was incompatible
received a very pretty, neat, colourful, insightful, helpful spreadsheet from colleague in sales. s/thing as sw engineer have never managed
it's now very dark in home office ... really should have a low level light. wish my keyboard was illuminated
@thecheekycritic go home?
@andypiper do you have it selected - you can choose what gets synced (booksmarks, extensions etc). Also is chrome uptodate (supports apps?)
@timbo_baggins My daughter has a backlit keyboard. very nice. My laptop has a screen light, but it's not that hot. desktop PC has neither.
Benefit of working from home http://pi.pe/-n3pg5f
lots of pop on lastfm this afternoon then suddenly.. otis redding "Love man" feeling blues-ey now...
interesting, lost network connectivity for a minute at home. Yep. O2 router crashed/rebooted. But only 8 days then #BTInfinity
wonder how stable the #BTInfinity #hh2 is. I've heard it can be a bit dodgy. will have to see - probs will report..
@timbo_baggins something like 31/7 estimate. WHich is fine, but also probably conservative so hopefully more. (dist=470m 0.5mm Cu)
just about to cook dinner only to start reading about the web services supported by my TV http://bit.ly/hJeKhE (just an alert mechanism)
I feel some tricks coming on ....
@unkn0wnvariable yep. i have about 4 dsl routers. for my long line its no question the best by far. latest fw not bad. crashes after 7-10 dy
@unkn0wnvariable other routers cant manage the sync stable enough even netgear/broadcom for my 4.7km line
@unkn0wnvariable true. the thomson can maintain a low snrm very well. at my distance speed was 3-3.3 ish instead of 4-4.5
@tmobilefail I hear they do nasty image compression. *but* with mbnl & everything everywhere their radio network at least should b excellent
@unkn0wnvariable spot on. Replaced a slightly broken ip4300 - cheaper to get new printer than replace head. same carts. like it.
Looking at entymology of "Station Wagon". Just one of those things http://bit.ly/fgDj3T - and reminder of cr*p british term shooting wagon
Didn't know that early US "station wagons" with wood panels were called "woodies" oh and te term "countryman" was used too ...
probably cause by all the #ev #car talk from #ces11
@nnubeh sounds like "red bull" time ...
@AndyBold funnily enough that's the first time I thought of that image. obviously have something on your mind!
@hunni_h probably the same with any professional. never commit and always varies albeit around some common themes...
@unkn0wnvariable I thought that was the "classic" edition with those pillars mounted on the roof ;-)
@AndyBold indeed, I got your meaning.
@badhedgehog silly me trying to use big words. thx :-(
@unkn0wnvariable my heads got bunged up after a while of using cheap inks. couldn't clean/clear and new head pricey.
@unkn0wnvariable now only use origs, but ££ -- what do you use in yours?
@unkn0wnvariable I actually hunted down the ip4500 even when the 4600 was out as it took same inks/larger carts as ip4300
@VeedubGeezer yep see http://bit.ly/fgDj3T
@hunni_h no idea of cause of course but for simple lost voice we tried some of these with some improvement (like any sweet thats all) ->
@hunni_h http://amzn.to/fgkLgM - can get from a regular chemist (not boots, independent) but they're just pastilles.
@hunni_h oh sorry to hear that. just an idea :-(
oh great. In the 10 yrs to 31/12/2009 the average UK pension fund returned an average of 3.2% pa . Fantastic. diddly squat.
@AdamManning indeed. I guess I'm fortunate compared to those younger, and unfortunate compared to those older -- getting worse over time
@Formula1Dragon though the pensions issue is much bigger than that. It's a global issue and has other factors like improved health
@hunni_h well at least twitter doesn't strain the vocal chords..
@Formula1Dragon though of course less spare income - less likely to invest in pension. accept that. s/thing every1 needs to think about
can't take pensions any more. What shall I look at now? Can I take anything money related? probably not :-(
have i missed any of 'the event' on ch.4 since xmas or did the episodes stop?
