From Twitter 08-10-2010

nice to have had good night's sleep. Feeling loads refreshed now!
If you read my blog post about hursley road closures yesterday check again, seems it isn't so bad after all!
@RocketboomNYC Nice to see you on twitter. Enjoy watching the episodes from the other side of the pond.
@Suw If its not a series (ie for itunes) how about just youtube? - can be embedded, on yt site and like/favs/playlists etc
@suziperry I was looking for "simple" one I found the Nilfisk C110 extra great. Patio attach. too - great for deck. http://bit.ly/b69bW4
@suziperry but someone expect you have had plenty of advice and know what you want from such a gadg...
@mostlylisa Never did understand it. At least in UK we made it most of way. Just left US cousins with the old rubbish ;-) m kg, C (or K) 4me
quick jump up to locate laptop power adapter. Has it been that long. Doesn't time fly
@Amy_Walker maybe in your household but plenty of others up!
@Suw @katebevan There's also of course full tempur mattresses (memory foam). Very nice tho very ££
cockapoo Bitch is pregnant!
Wish #foursquare and #gowalla would let you add a point and put it in to queue so can add details address etc later via web ui.
annoyed at windows & fonts.. set the correct dpi for my screen (153) expecting to adjust font size. Nope windows expects dpi hack. #fail.
@OzoneVibe @angryjefi true but you have to add address info - I'd like to defer that until I have a spare moment. #foursquare
Yay. My 4Gb memory chip for laptop arrived, so now 6Gb.. and plantronics replacement dongle. Cool.
@OzoneVibe @OzoneVibe #foursquareOk. thanks for reminding my how good gravity is! #foursquare
@RocketboomNYC rad? walls good. Interesting to walk/photos. Town busy but needs to be more touristy. Growing cruise industry - med/nordics
So I take it @RocketboomNYC is the more tech news/show/professional stuff and @ellamorton for other random/personal observations
@RocketboomNYC good luck. personal/work split I find tough, but then in media it's prob far harder as person very close to "brand"
!!-> RT @RocketboomNYC: @planetf1 I am no longer capable of maintaining a work/life divide. Seems a common affliction in the internet age!
next hour is time to think about software serviceability...
@Formula1FanCast problems with loading pages, but J seemed much more sincere & engaging when the live #f1 coverage
@dougedey sarcasm? Partly serious. Maybe glossary/google search results should match for #fail - serious -- depends on what ppl search for!
@dougedey it's a serious topic though, Silly ideas may turn out to be very useful. Need to translate that pain into actionable items
Really annoying when a misconfigured client pc is incorrectly broacasting office ssid.
@dougedey i did my stint in service many years ago. That and working in small team (no escape) means serviceability becomes paramount
@djmatt82 agree! Of course @rocketboomnyc better watch out when it comes to an #f1 weekend. Tweets can go a bit crazy whilst watching race!
figuring right angle for headset mic and proximity of mute so I can drink coffee during my conf call...
My softphone was ignoring digit "6". wierd. Got in late, but call not started (leader late). Saved from embarrasment!
RT @allenibrahim: Man...why can't my Facebook friends be as able to carry out an intelligent conversation/argument as you guys? Even w/ ...
@F1_updates @GrandPrixDiary @tonyfernandes WHat I'd love - super fast BB (25 Mbps+?) and fom offering multiple HD streaming feeds :-)
@ThreeUKLatest -> RT @Ew4n: @3mobilebuzz could you guys as 3 what's going on with their data network in Richmond? Up and down like a yoyo
@jtonline What! We'll all want to move. #ftw
@abirkill it's the *book* prices more than HW esp with DRM etc so no resale. Should be fair bit cheaper. And hw < 100 pschological win.
Great to see @vodafoneuk paying attention to customer feedback & responding quickly -- http://digg.com/d31ZIi2?t (not customer/no htc!)
@MorganF1 no personal experiences, but heard can get slow. no facts. do you do lots/data? Pers pref is O2 (if you can get llu)
@MorganF1 good place to discuss is here http://bit.ly/csjiEH
RT @JayOatway: Top 10 Albert Einstein Quotes - http://bit.ly/cShqlU
@MorganF1 well that was my perception, but need to enable you to make your own mind up... I use O2. REALLY good if your exchange is ->
@MorganF1 unbundled (they have their own kit). www.samknows.com will tell you
@MorganF1 Sorry to be specific on link, check at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker
What! My local exchange RFS date from sanknows has changed from mid/late Aug to 1 Dec 2010 ... :-(
RFS for FTTC that is.
IBM Acquires datacap http://bit.ly/9gU12s for document capture
@deanupton they have already been pulling fibre from exchange to near us - in fact that was 3-4 weeks ago. Supposedly putting in DSLAMS
@deanupton about now. At time techs said it should be up/running mid-Aug
@deanupton Of course what I need is a provider offering sensible packages, value, service (if only @O2 or @bebroadband offered FTTC)
@deanupton hope so. even 30/9 (500m?) would be better than 4.5/1 :-) #fttc
Learnt yesterday that vmware ESXi 4.1 supports USB passthru. Nice. Had been stopping me use a sentinel/safenet dongle :-)
@noelrooney Yes v.happy. After 1st scan we were disappointed. So all delighted now the scan showed a few baby cockapoos!
@OzoneVibe 3 or 4 we think.
@rogerlund didn't see, but thanks for ptr. Just looked in docs & device seems to be be detected. Still need to fresh dongle key etc.
@OzoneVibe small dogs tend to have far fewer puppies. She's quite small. But can be tricky to know exactly
@OzoneVibe 3-5 is fairly typical for a cockapoo
A friend updated updated a google wave I started. Wondering if there's any point in logging in to update....
RT @askedgirl: Girl quits her job on dry erase board and emails the entire office... wait, it gets better and better -> http://j.mp/9 ...
Am very annoyed with myself. Looks like virtually all the earlybird tkts for silverstone are gone. Should have booked earlier :-( #f1 bover
@surreyblonde I love walking around london when not rushed/walking. So much architecture/history. I could spend many days wandering around!
@inbedlam not sure.. may have to review the expenditure.
@oldmanuk it's good it does it, but is so obvious. I dislike the whole sync via cable mentality these days. should be all over tinternet
@peteralevy well it's good for f1/silverstone. Actually still tkts for vale, but don't fancy
@kazb711 what looking at £££ or annoyed at yourself for not getting on with it...
@surreyblonde never lived there, only occasional visits. Not a fan of rush-hour squash. walking if weather ok so much nicer
grits teeth & curses under breath & pours a glass....
RT @rickmans: The consistent failure of Linux to grab even 1% of the desktop OS market http://dlvr.it/3dDVr
@Petronella ouch.. damp? leaking pipe?. well that's what you pay insurance for.. #deepjoy
I notice some people using "twitlonger" a lot. I find it quite annoying to read with many tweets extending to a URL. Anyone else?
All this talk of @sarahbeeny 's series makes me think tonight could be nicely concluded with gadget show+house falling apart
@peteralevy ah that explains it. Thanks for trying to stay away. occasionally is fine, but some seem to use it all the time...
@bharathmg I find it lumpy. tweego smoother but connection not reliable either, and no DM etc support. #Gravity S60 best! #witter #tweego
@bharathmg need S60 emulator on #N900 Or time to explore the Qt SDK... #witter #tweego
@leinir indeed. And to some extent twitlonger makes that more traansparent, but it doesn't go to a blog style approach
@leinir More like posterous might be useful (which I love for posting photos+comments from phone)
@leinir On a related topic I came across twittenesis recently for archiving tweets (mine at http://bit.ly/aAKH08 ) -- interesting.
@jon_read I think it defeats the objective of twitter to some extent then - I could read rss feed, blog pages
@kazb711 I've done chicago for a 5 hr meeting before, 1st hour being spent with lawyers rewording a confidentiality agreement...
@kazb711 a lot to be said for video/web conferencing though have to say sometimes it's just good to be with ppl face2face
@SlyRenard trying to be a journalist?
RT @sebmatthews: RT @UKformula1: Ferrari #F1 Team: “Summer break will bring fresh inspiration” http://bit.ly/cTDcTS >such as how to b ...
@eric_andersen Yes -- not convinced as to how well it works - moderation, following Q&A can be tough? #CustServ
Paging through facebook updates is definately tougher than twitter a) they stay there b) much more cluttered/varied layout c) more noise ?
@SlyRenard right well time to leave networking & head to tgs/beeny.. l8r
realized I had to made some family phonecalls tonight.... finally ready for beeny...
classic @sarahbeeny quote on tonight's prog. "bad luck or bad judgement" ;-) sorry for buyers but point well made...
@katebevan you mention free "ftp client". Can't you just use browser? ftp://xxx.yyy/dir ??
@noelrooney Tee hee. that got me to. Was good to see the owners smiling. Amazed they got it done. scary stuff there!
@EmpireSteve @Amy_Walker @jon_read and need full frame lenses..sure it's nice tho! happy with lowly d90. it's the talent that needs work!
watching review of coffee machines on @TheGadgetShow - still think nothing wrong with good ol manual gaggia (in right hands). super coffee!
@EmpireSteve yep, but its great fun!
@noelrooney too right, and things with a blocked overflow, well flow-over ;-)
Quite impressive cost per page on that Kodak ESP3250 on @TheGadgetShow - 1/2 of others. Have IP4500 here. cheaper to rnu than 4700 I think
