Um. Seems like the latest generic x86 32bit ubuntu kern 10.10 is failing. Though pae version ok. Missing drv or bad boot entry perhaps
@oldmanuk i struggle with inbound calls too. Bad timing. Wrong location. No mobile coverage. Easier to sort out via email or other online

Ubuntu 10.10 boot men looks fine. Perhaps lvm support was dropped from generic kernel in last update.. Or maybe bad initrd build..
